The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the preliminary shortlist. Ten films will be shortlisted for nominations voting (these ten will go to the traditional VFX Bake-Off).

The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 5:30 a.m. PT at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The 88th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood.

  1. I think The Revenant is gonna take it. In my opinion Academy don’t like vfx-in-your-face kind of movies like Avengers or Godzilla, they like invisible vfx. Also they love Iñárritu, which is pretty understandable, he is a great director.
