DeepX – Underwater @ Cine Gear

Cine Gear starts today in LA and we have a preview of one of the best underwater rigs we have seen and used. Achtel’s DeepX is both a mono and separate stereo rig, where the lens is in the water. Without glass or other optics between the imagery and the lens, the results are stunning. In tests we have done, this rig performs exceptionally well especially to the edge of the image plane. As the lens is in the water, a diver can just reach to the lens for focus and direct aperture adjustment.

The rigs are small, extremely well made and perform well in a wide variety of conditions. fxguide tested the rig at a shoot 100ft down off the coast of Tasmania, with external lights – the rig performed perfectly.

Mike Seymour interviews Pawel Achtel about the DeepX housing.

The DeepX underwater housing will be on display at Cine Gear Expo this weekend at the Band Pro booth.

Given the advances there is a huge size reduction - between a normal rig (L) and the DeepX (R).
