FMX 2012 program announced

One of the stand-out visual effects and animation conferences of the year is FMX in Stuttgart, Germany. fxguide attended the event in 2011, and we’ll be there again from May 8th to 11th in 2012, this time as the official FMX podcast.

FMX, which is run by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and organized by the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction, has just announced its program for 2012. There’s an incredible diversity in the planned presentations – from virtual production to visual effects, animation, games, TVCs, country focus, stereo, SIGGRAPH papers, screenings and key guests.

The FMX 2012 venue: Venue: Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart.

A major highlight will be the appearance of visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull on the future of cinema. Then there are multiple VFX talks on films like John Carter, Real Steel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Red Tails, Hugo, Pirates!, Ice Age 4, Game of Thrones, La Luna and Arthur Christmas by the big effects and animation houses – ILM, Digital Domain, MPC, Cinesite, Double Negative, Prime Focus, Weta Digital, Pixar, Blue Sky Studios, New Deal Studios, Framestore, Pixomondo, Aardman and Imageworks – just to name a few.

Add to that a substantial program thread on virtual production and previs looking at some of the work behind War Horse, Tintin, Total Recall, Real Steel, Hugo and more.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of the extent of FMX talks and events – there’s also tech talks, a games focus, virtual humans examination and the animation production day as well as the 19th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film.

As the official podcast of FMX 2012, we’ll be bringing you not only daily coverage of the presentations but also in-depth interviews via fxguidetv. We also hope to meet up with our readers in Stuttgart and fxphd students there. For the full program and to find out how to get tickets, head over to the FMX site.

  1. How about implying the fxphd or fx guide members attending the conference in doing some addition coverage for fx guide tv? Over at fxphd I saw that quiet a few will be there

  2. I will be there on Friday 11th May screening Fubar-Redux followed by a Q&A / Presentation of how it was made completely inside Nuke (Foundry are one of the technology sponsors of the project).

In the meantime you can watch the film via http://www.fubar-movie.com

    Hope to see you there.
