GoPro announces acquisition of VR software maker Kolor

GoPro has announced that they are acquiring Kolor, developers of software which helps create and display spherical VR content. It’s a sensible move for GoPro, as there is more and more VR spherical content being created using rigs housing GoPro cameras.

Kolor’s Autopano Video application stitches the GoPro camera footage together. The app comes in two flavors, standard and pro. The pro version adds stereoscopic stitching and GPU-accelerated processing.

Kolor Eyes is the 360 degree video player which runs on a variety of platforms mentioned earlier. The desktop version of the application supports the Leap Motion Controller, which allows gestural control of the player. The Windows version of Kolor Eyes also supports the Oculus Rift DK2.

The announcement was made as part of GoPro’s Q1 2015 earnings call, where they GoPro reported adjusted EPS of $0.24, with total revenue of $363.1 million. It was the second highest quarterly revenue in the history of the company.

There was no announcement regarding the sale price or terms of the deal between GoPro and Kolor.
