In this special episode, filmed live at HPA in Palm Springs, we speak to Richie Argue from Planar and Neil Abrew, Brand Manager from OptiTrack.
Below is Episode 2 from HPA, with fxguide’s Mike Seymour and creative technologist Tim Reha:
Planar’s Rickie Argue is a venue-scale display expert, with 15 years of experience creating next-generation display technologies for M&E. Planar is a global leader in LED and LCD VideoWalls, the company was founded in 1983 as a spin-off from Tektronix, and has annual revenues estimated over US$100 million, of which VP is just a small part. This weight of industry presence allows for its advanced R&D into very accurate and small micro pitch LEDs.

Neil Abrew actually comes from a background as a professional photographer and videographer and has been at OptiTrack for almost 7 years. As you can hear in this episode, OptiTrack provides very high precision camera tracking for Virtual Production. Their low latency, ultra-precise camera tracking for Virtual Production stages is less than < 10 ms. Their positional accuracy is +/- 0.2 mm and their rotational accuracy is +/- 0.1 deg.

The Stage at HPA was also powered by Disguise. disguise xR technology orchestrates LED, real-time content and camera tracking to power production VP environments. Below is a clip showing the end solution of the UE4, Disguise, OptiTrack and Planar set.
