VFXShow 280: Masters of the Air

Masters of the Air recounts the story of the 100th Bomb Group during World War II and follows bomber crews on various key dangerous missions to destroy targets inside German-occupied Europe. The show portrays the intensity of war, the daily dangers that the airmen faced in the air and behind enemy lines, and the lifetime relationships that resulted.

Masters of the Air stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan as part of an ensemble cast. John Shiban and John Orloff created the miniseries for Apple TV+.

The series is based on the 2007 book of the same name by Donald L. Miller and follows the actions of the 100th Bomb Group, a B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber unit in the Eighth Air Force in eastern England during World War II.

The series is the third in a series that includes Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010).  The nine-episode series reunited the award-winning team of Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman.
