In this episode, Matt Wallin, Jason Diamond and Mike Seymour look at Venom with visual effects lead by Paul Franklin and Sheena Duggal as the two visual effects supervisors. In the film when Eddie Brock acquires the powers of a symbiote, he will have to release his alter-ego “Venom” to save his life, save the world and finally get to kiss his (symbiote) girlfriend again.
This was recorded prior to fxguide talking to both Paul Franklin and Sheena Duggal. Those interviews will be published next here at fxguide.
The highly successful film crushed its box office expectations. Venom eclipsed the global competition with strong box office, and particularly from overseas. The worldwide total soared to $378.1M after just 12 days, with overseas contributing $235.3M. The film ranked #1 in 54 markets and it was tracking ahead of both Ant-Man and the Wasp (+32%) and Doctor Strange (+12%) for the same group of markets at the same point in release. It topped 57 of 58 international markets.
The visual effects in this film was lead by DNEG.
It is safe to say that, once again, our vfxshow team here at fxguide were divided, ( especially over the plot). But clearly audiences around the world have really embraced the film.
