fxguidetv: flame2008, Nuke Tech Preview - Shot on RED
Filed under: fxguide news by John Montgomery @ 11:17 am on September 13, 2007

vector-4way.png A new episode of fxguidetv is up which has interviews with Philippe Soeiro from Autodesk who talks about the new 2008 smoke and flame releases. We also speak with Matt Plec from the Foundry about what they were showing at IBC, which is a technology preview of the upcoming Nuke — complete with a brand new UI. Visit the fxguidetv page to download directly or subscribe in iTunes. We also have a new iPod/iPhone low-bandwidth version as well.

We also used the RED camera to photograph Angie in the studio. Sure, we compress it with H.264 and down res it signicantly. So why do it? Because we can. Not to mention the fact that it helps us develop the workflow for using the RED camera in production.

  1. The 4K talkin head shots are super, though the shallow DOF spoils the beautiful scenic backdrop.

  2. Am I crazy or is the audio-sync off when Angie is talking?

  3. either the audio is slow by a frame or two or the video is at 15fps…. something like that I think.

  4. why does the red footage look less punchy as the 2nd camera on angie? not as much contrast or saturation.

  5. The shot of Angie, was captured in 4K?

  6. Red shoots at default with very little contrast baked in. They probably just didn’t crank it in post as everyone is still working out their r3d workflows and they wanted to show something now.
