burn is Discreet’s new Linux-based network rendering solution for inferno, flame and flint systems. burn allows you to render Batch setups in the background using low-cost PC workstations while simultaneously freeing your online suite for more creative tasks. With burn facilities can leverage a larger pool of CPU power so that complex visual effects requiring intensive rendering can be created more quickly – potentially cutting production costs and reducing the time-to-completion on a project – a significant advantage when creating visual effects for today’s feature film, HDTV and video projects. burn requires Discreet’s free network render manager, backburner, to operate.
burn Overview
burn renders Batch setups created in inferno 5, flame 8 or flint 8.
burn will also render Action nodes in Batch.
burn features an integrated software renderer for background processing of Action’s OpenGL graphics capabilities.
burn is simple to use: a single button click in inferno, flame and flint creates a background render request.
Render requests are sent to backburner, which then allocates them to all available burn resources on the network.
On receiving a render request, burn automatically fetches the images it requires from inferno, flame or flint across the network and then processes them.
burn reads and writes clips directly to Discreet Storage framestores.
burn can be installed on any supported PC workstation configured with Linux Red Hat version 7.2.
burn can be installed on remote machine-room servers and render farms: burn has and requires no user interface – its core function being exclusively to execute rendering tasks in the background. burn supports concurrent rendering of a single setup on multiple Linux workstations up to a maximum of 20.
burn can be purchased in single units or in 5, 10, 15 and 20-license packs.
backburner Overview
backburner is Discreet’s free network render management software.
backburner can be installed on most PC workstations running Microsoft Windows 2000 – no actual rendering occurs on this station.
backburner provides a single, central location for handling rendering requests originating from multiple inferno, flame and flint systems on the network.
On receiving one or more rendering requests, backburner is responsible for prioritizing them, allocating them appropriately to all available burn systems on the network for efficient workload sharing and then dispatching the individual request to each burn workstation.
backburner monitors the status of each request and notifies the inferno, flame and flint system.
backburner is distributed free with burn.
