We’re excited to announce that DVDs of fxguide LIVE’03 and LIVE’04 are now available for purchase. They can be ordered by clicking here. Each year is two-disc DVD recording of the 3-hour fxguide LIVE seminars done in Las Vegas at NAB, complete with example setups. fxguide LIVE’05 DVDs from this year are currently in production and are planning to be released mid-summer.
As a senior operator you are often the person in your facility that everyone asks for advice – so where do you go for new tips and techniques? In 2003 the fxguide crew decided to hold a seminar where senior operators and artists could meet and learn the latest techniques. Knowledge of the software was expected, and as a result the event was a spectacular hit.
Countless individuals commented that it was exactly what they needed to understand the newly introduced tools such as camera mapping, expressions and the modular keyer. Time and again we were told that people rarely have any time for self-training and most seminars are just simply not complex enough, often glossing over the algorithms and underlying principles of our craft. Some comments from artists who attended the events:
- “Essential event for all users for flame and inferno”
- “More clear than the manual, cheaper than a course”
- “fxguide has become my first priority event at NAB”
- “Fabulous, see you at fxguide3”
- “At last I get it. The MK or as we call it the ‘complikeyer’ was demystified”
- “Simply the best, it’s wonderful that people of such calibre are able to share with us”
- “I have been to a lot of seminars – this one was exceptionally well layed out and prepared”
- “This event will last the whole year. The camera linked with projectors to make flat artwork come to life was incredible to see and its a trick I’ll be using on my clients on Tuesday!”
The fxguide events have filled a need to expand flame artists’ knowledge base. Guest speaker Philippe Soeiro from Eclair Labs in Paris lent his professional insight on film workflow to the event in both years, and Vico Sharabani of Rhinofx, New York City added his professional expertise to the event in 2004
After considerable pressure from both senior artists who had attended and those who had not managed to attend the events, we can now offer a very accurate record of the two events on DVD. These DVDs have been edited and constructed by the speakers themselves to accurately demonstrate and illustrate the key points of both conferences.
