We’re big fans of the Cineon/DPX tools here at fxguide and are looking forward to the improvements in the new version, set to be released at NAB 2008 in April. The new version will include Cineon and DPX Sequence Presets along with a full Cineon or DPX Codec. The combination of these two features now completely eliminates the need to render your sequences in Final Cut Pro’s timeline. No more red render bar. There’s also support for Compressor 3.
Glue Tools has also released v2.5.12a of its Cineon and DPX QuickTime Components for Filmmakers. This is largely a bugfix release, which should address any issues discovered since the last release. This is to be the last update of v2.5 before the release of v3.0 at NAB 2008. This upgrade is free to existing 2.5.x owners.

The Cineon and DPX QuickTime component are now fully threaded. An 8-core Macintosh, with RAID, can export 1 second of ProRes 422 media, at HD resolutions in about 3 to 4 seconds, using QuickTime Pro. Sections of the Cineon/DPX Components have undergone a re-write to improve performance. 20,000+ frame sequences now load in seconds. Playback has been optimized, and several new time-saving features have been added.
Your imagery can be directly loaded into Final Cut Pro or Compressor, without needing to be compressed into an intermediate codec or movie format. Compressor 3 is now fully supported. A Cineon and DPX Compressor Plugin has been added to let Compressor export Cineon or DPX sequences. These plugins provide Compressor with the ability to export any media to 10-bit 444 Cineon or DPX files. Full dynamic range is preserved. Also, large multi-shot sequences can be sent to a render farm, using compressor, cutting down the time needed to export frames.
