In our most recent Red Centre podcast we talked with Mark L. Pederson from OffHollywood about receiving the very first EPIC camera to be shipped to a customer by RED, serial #00006. On REDuser.net today comes word that this camera was stolen from a chalet in the alps when thieves forced entry and took the EPIC as well as cash. Pederson reported: “The thieves actually entered the master bedroom while my in-laws were sleeping, and standing a foot from their bed – empties wallet and purse. There were 6 children and 8 adults sleeping in the house.”
RED owner Jim Jannard is offering a $100,000 reward: “We are now offering $100,000 for the safe return of EPIC #00006 and the rest of the system including the media with Mark’s files… and the arrest and conviction of those that broke into Mark’s chalet in France. We will ONLY pay this amount if there is an arrest and conviction of the parties as we are not interested to be ransomed by thieves.” Full details in this thread on REDuser. The thieves will likely find it difficult to do much with the camera as it is the only one in the world, the serial number is engraved prominently on the camera and the same is encoded into every frame recorded by the camera.
Man I hope they don’t just dump it or destroy it out of malice. Good luck.
Man I lost my iPhone during new year’s eve but this put thing into perspective. 🙁 So sorry to hear that. I hope they find those barstards.
