VFXShow 258: Dune Oscar Preview

The wonderfully – physics challenged – Sand worm.

The 94th Academy Awards are next week. The Best Visual Effects Oscar race celebrates the best work of VFX artists the world over. In this episode we discuss our pick (guess?) to win the Best Effects Oscar: Dune.

VFX Supervisor, Paul Lambert, main visual effects house: DNEG. Paul Lambert won in 2018 with Blade Runner 2049 and again the next year for First Man. Our experts agree that Dune is a major contender to win this year, which would be a truly remarkable achievement for Paul Lambert and reflect the outstanding work of the entire DNEG team, and all the key craft teams including those excluded from this year’s live coverage, a point the team discusses in this special Dune Oscar episode.

The water shot Matt discusses.
