This week, the team discusses the VFX of the smash hit Deadpool & Wolverine, which is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). And not everyone’s reaction is what you might expect!
Shawn Levy directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman star as Wade Wilson / Deadpool and Logan / Wolverine, alongside a host of cameos and fan-friendly references.
Swen Gillberg was the production VFX Supervisor, and Lisa Marra was the Production VFX Producer. The VFX Companies that brought this comic/action world to life included Framestore, ILM, Wētā FX, Base FX, Barnstorm VFX, Raynault VFX, and Rising Sun Pictures.
Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 22, 2024. It has grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide so far, becoming the 22nd-highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.
