iPad app beta program for fxinsiders

Thanks to the amazing support of our readers during our fxinsider membership drive, we’ve been able to do some extra things on our site in the last couple of months. In addition to our live coverage from NAB, we’ve created the special Moving Day iBook, which chronicles the making of the fxphd short film. Another one of our goals was to begin development of our fxguide iPad application. We’re happy to say that thanks to your support, we’ll soon be opening a beta program for testing the application.

Our goal is two fold — to get it into your hands to enjoy as well as have you help us squash bugs and make sure the app is stable. So if you’d like to be part of the beta testing, please sign up at our beta distribution site:

http://tflig.ht/Mg4MEZ

In the next two weeks, we’ll be starting our program and will notify you as to how to download and install the software.

In broad strokes, some goals of the app are:

  • to provide an enhanced reading and viewing experience of the content on the fxguide site. Mike, Jeff and I all enjoy reading on the iPad and our content fits in nicely with that
  • provide an “offline” reading mode, where you click a button and download the last week of content from the site. It’s a great way catch up on reading while traveling on a plane…or simply downloading from home where you have higher bandwidth and less charges
  • ability to save an article for later viewing. For instance, I’ve always wanted to have a copy of “The Art of” series with me for reference…and the app will make it possible
  • iPad exclusive features, such as special image galleries, a “before/after” comp comparison article type,  and high resolution retina quality images you can’t get on the normal site
  • and more…
We want to get the first release out the door and add new features later, but need your help.  So we hope you’ll sign up with the beta program.

Thanks again for your support.

    Great news!

  • cyril conforti says:

Yep…and for Android ? The world don’t turn around Apple, you know ? 😉

    • John Montgomery says:

Actually — it does turn around Apple. There’s really no tablet market at this point, just an iPad market. The numbers are stunningly in favor of the Apple product.

That’s why we’re starting out with the iPad only. When Android starts to get close to the iPad, we’ll work on supporting it.

any update on the status of this project?
Would have loved to have it about a month ago… have done soo much traveling lately.

  • Andrew Usher says:

Has this been rolled out yet?

  • Ali Taheri says:

do we have any chance to have iPad app beta, any time soon or all the seats already taken ?

  • Sean Thigpen says:

    Hey John,

Did this ever roll out? I’ve been signed up for a while but haven’t seen anything yet and a podcast or 2 ago it sounded like it was ready to go (beta that is).

    Thanks,
    Sean
